Many of the artworks in the UAH Art Collection have been donated by generous individuals interested in sharing their prized art pieces with the University Hospital and contributing to the healing environment.
Artwork Donation Process
Artwork offered for donation to the University of Alberta Hospital, the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute will be considered based on the following criteria:
The artwork contributes to the UAH Art Collection by providing patients, staff, and families with inspiration, comfort, and distraction
The content, images, and colour are appropriate for and beneficial to the hospital environment
The artwork is original
The artwork is professional quality that maintains the consistency and integrity of the collection
The artwork was created on, with, and framed using archival materials
good physical condition
Potential donors will be asked to submit an image and description of the artwork being offered. Donations will be pre-screened, and if determined to be appropriate, will be reviewed by our Art Collection Acquisition Committee for approval.
If the artwork is accepted, donors are asked to complete a “Donation Agreement” which transfers legal ownership to Alberta Health Services.
Donors are entitled to receive a charitable tax receipt for the appraised value of the artwork. The Friends of University Hospitals works with the University Hospital Foundation and the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation to process donations and issue tax receipts. For artwork valued under $1000.00, the Manager, UAH Art Collection may be able to verify the value. For artwork valued at $1000.00 or more, an independent appraisal from a member of the Canadian Art Dealers Association is required at the donor’s expense. Gallery staff can provide information on appropriate appraisers.
