It is with heavy hearts that The Friends of University Hospitals announce the passing of Nancy Lieberman – the namesake of the Nancy Lieberman Special Purposes Fund. It takes great courage to volunteer, and Nancy Lieberman generously donated her time to numerous community volunteer organizations that benefited from her skills. Nancy volunteered her time in so many places outside of the hospital, but achieved so much here at the University of Alberta Hospitals.
Nancy served here as a volunteer for over 30 years; becoming a member of the Hospital Board of Directors, sitting on the Building Committee for the Walter C. Mackenzie Building, and serving on the Board of Directors for the Friends as both Chair and Treasurer. Adding to her long list of achievements she also volunteered with the University Hospital Foundation and was part of the founding committee of our beloved McMullen Gallery. After retiring from the world of volunteering, she sat on the committee for the fund that bears her name.
In dedication to Nancy and all of her years of hard work, the Nancy Lieberman Special Purpose Fund was created in 2006, helping support the purchase of equipment, supplies, and educational materials to enhance patient care and comfort at the University of Alberta Hospitals. Pictured here are floral arrangements from our Patient Relations Flower program which is currently funded through the program., Financial support for the fund comes from the Friends Gift Shop, specialty vendors in the atrium and public donations.
Sadly on March 29, 2019, Nancy passed away. We are forever grateful for her contributions to our community, and will remember her fondly for all of her hard work and her amazing personality. Please read her full obituary here.
